Master Tara Singh And Punjabi Suba

Description The Sikh dream of Sikh sovereignty was partially realized during Maharaja Ranjit Singh's rule. But after that the Sikhs had to contend with a diluted version of it. After India's partition in 1947, the Sikh cast their lot with the Hindus, the majority community. But following the reorganization of state on linguistic basis after India's independence, Sikhs also demanded the creation of a similar state. They had to launch a movement to get a Punjabi speaking state called the Punjabi Suba. Master Tara Singh was the leading light of this political movement which ultimately resulted in the creation of a Punjabi speaking state in 1966. The present research dissertation traces the origin, history and evolution of the political aspirations of the Sikhs and the pivotal role played by Master Tara Singh in its latest phase. The thesis is well-researched and well-documented and traces the chronological evolution of Sikh's political ambitions of the Sikhs[edit]
