Eighteenth century marks the watershed in Sikh history. After a lot of violence, bloodshed and innumerable sacrifice, the Sikhs were able to rule over their native land of Punjab in the form of Misls or confederacies. These confederacies finally emerged into a single sovereign Sikh state under the command of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the chief of Sukerchakia Misl. This research dissertation traces te history of Sukerchakia Misl from its inception upto the year 1799 when Maharaja Ranjit Singh took over as the sovereign ruler of whole of Punjab. This Misl gained supremacy over the other Misl due to the bravery, courage, warriorship and commanding personalities of Maharaja Ranjit Singh's ancestors. Their commitment to Sikh ideals and efficient administrative qualities were the other factors for their supremacy[edit]
