Sikh Dharam Sastra

Description This valuable volume documents the basic tenets and practices of Sikh religion or Sikh Panth based on Sikh theology and established Sikh conventions and practices founded by Sikh Gurus and it subsequent Sikh practitioners. It is, perhaps, the first Sikh document containing explicit definitions and explanations of Sikh tenets. It is an effort at standardization of code of conduct for the Sikhs in order to maintain the unique and distinct identity of Sikh religion and its followers. It records and codifies collective Sikh decisions about Sikh views on divine form, Hindu gods and goddesses, sacred Sikh scripture, Amrit initiation and Sikh ceremonies at the time of birth, death marriage etc. Its intrinsic value lies in its preparation of standardized version of Sikh doctrines and practices in the absence of any existing codified record. Later on, the unanimous Sikh Rehat Maryada (Code of Conduct) prepared and implemented in mid-twentieth century replicated bulk of this codified version. It is one of the primary sources of Sikh theology and practices[edit]
