After the constitution of Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee in 1925, efforts were made to formulate a standard code of conduct called 'Rehat Maryada' for leading a Sikh way of life leased on the teachings of Sikh Gurus and Gurbani. This booklet contains a set of directions and stipulations of the universally accepted and standard code of conduct for the Sikhs to be followed by them in their personal as well social life. This code of conduct is followed by the Sikhs all over the world to a large extent. Its acceptance gives the Sikhs a distinct religious, social and national identity[edit]
