Var Amritsar ki

Description This ballad written in Punjabi by lesser known poet "Darshan" was written around 1766 BK or 1709 AD. It deals with a minor skirmish between Sikhs of Amritsar and the combined force of local businessman Chuhar Mal Ohri and some soldiers of Nawab Aslam Khan of Lahore after a complaint made by Chuhar Mal against the Sikhs. The skirmish is born out of minor incident of Chuhar Mal's gardener's refusal to give some fruit to the Singhs from his garden. In all the three skirmishes between Muslim and Chuhar Mal's force and the Singhs, victory belongs to the Singhs. Two other Hindu collaborators Amin Harsahai of Patti and Chaudhary Deva Jat of Naushera Pannuan also get defeated. Amin Harsahai is killed. Thus, the incident belongs to the Pre-Banda Bahadur period. The ballad is not of a very high poetic style or literary value. But it definitely conveys the high morale of the Khalsa and the disorganized state of Mughal rule in Punjab in the beginning of 18th century.[edit]
