This collection of Chamlee Paintings belongs to four distinct phases. These four phases are Basohli (1720-64), Guler-Chamba (1770-1808), Sikh (1820-1850), and Revivalist Phase (19th century). These paintings depict contemporary landscape, figures of Hindu Mythology, romance, jewellery, dress, royalty, Rainy season, love pangs and several other aspects of royal and common man's life. All paintings use bold colours for background and different colours for dresses of different figures. Influences of both Hindu and Islamic art are visible in the dresses and architecture depicted in these paintings. The editor of the monograph has given a valuable information about the history of Chamba region, its rulers and the art works of their times. |
