Title Census of India 1961
Description Conducting a census and tabulating its results at the national level of a vast country like India is a monumental task indeed. Such a task was undertaken by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India in 1961. But before undertaking this enumeration in 1961, several conferences and seminars were held to work out the major parameters for a comprehensive census and clear-cut guidelines prepared, published and handed over to the field staff. This volume contains guidelines and enlists the vital ingredients of Indian landscape and society and their tabulation for futuristic plans. These guidelines clearly chalks out methodology to conduct statistical survey of land holdings, housing patterns in village and cities, industrial establishments, scheduled tribes and castes, demographic figures and several others vital segments. The result of this census reveals the state of Indian economy, population growth, and social patterns of Indian society.
