Title |
The Idea of Sikh State |
Description |
Despite all solemn and tall promises made by both the Hindus and the Muslims to provide adequate protection and safeguards to the Sikhs in their respective countries after India's independence and partition, the Sikhs still felt insecure and unsafe under the majority rule. Their fears and apprehensions were the result of extremely communal environment which existed in India before 1947. As a result the Sikhs demanded the creation of a separate autonomous state of Punjab in the 'central, northern, eastern and south eastern Punjab'. This booklet presents a strong case for the creation of a separate autonomous state of Punjab for the Sikhs for preserving their distinct religious and cultural identity. Tracing the history of the Sikhs and evolution of their religion, the two authors present a strong case for a separate autonomous state for the Sikhs |
