Title |
Johar Khalsa |
Description |
The thirteen volumes of this poetic epic describe major acts of brutality and atrocities perpetrated by the Mughal rulers like Yahya Khan, Mir Mannu and their agents like Lakhpat Rai and Jaspat Rai as well as invasions of Afghan invader Ahmad Shah Abdali on the Sikhs during the 18th century. It also records the sagas of extraordinary valour and sacrifices of several Sikh warriors like Baba Deep Singh, Nihang Gurbakhsh Singh, Sukha Singh, Shubeg Singh and his son Shahbaz Singh, Mehtab Singh, Dewan Kaura Mal and hundreds of Sikh women and children. Almost the entire eighteenth century is the most violent period in Sikh history which includes two large scale massacres of the Sikhs known as Chhota and Wadda Ghallugharas. The Sikhs remember these sacrifices in their daily prayer. |
